At St Catherine’s College, our Science curriculum is designed to inspire curiosity, foster critical thinking, and develop a lifelong love of science. Our mission is to prepare students to stand shoulder to shoulder with their peers locally, nationally, and globally. We aim to equip all students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to explore and engage with the scientific world.

Through our Science curriculum, we strive to:

  • Instil a love for science, encouraging students to enjoy their lessons and develop a lasting interest in scientific concepts.
  • Equip students with scientific knowledge and practical skills, enabling them to think deeply, solve problems, and make informed decisions when encountering scientific issues in their future lives.
  • Provide a strong foundation for those pursuing further studies in science, encouraging and supporting students to progress to A Levels and beyond.

Our curriculum is carefully structured to ensure:

  • Engagement and progression, with lessons designed to spark curiosity and build understanding from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 4.
  • Opportunities for students to develop critical thinking, applying their scientific knowledge to solve complex problems and evaluate real-world issues.
  • A clear pathway to GCSE success, with students either pursuing Triple Science (leading to three separate GCSEs) or Combined Science (worth two GCSEs), depending on their abilities and interests.

We aim to:

  • Inspire ambition, encouraging students to consider science-based careers and further education.
  • Foster resilience and independence, ensuring students can tackle scientific challenges with confidence.
  • Highlight the relevance of science to everyday life, helping students see its impact on the world and their role in addressing global challenges.

Science at St Catherine’s College is about more than just academic achievement; it’s about nurturing inquisitive, reflective, and responsible individuals who are prepared to explore and shape the world around them.
