Examination information

Examinations for 2023-24

The finalised dates for the Summer Exams at St Catherine’s College this year have been set for 9 May until 18 June 2024.  

In addition to the set dates three additional dates have been allocated as National ‘Contingency Exam Dates’.  This is to provide an opportunity for Examination Boards to reschedule exams in the event of unforeseen cancellations, such as a Covid outbreak or national disasters.

It is important that parents, carers and students understand that holiday plans should not be made during the exam period or over the contingency dates below:

  • Thursday 6 June (1pm-5pm)
  • Thursday 13 June (1pm-5pm)
  • Wednesday 26 June (All day)

In addition to the Summer Exam period, throughout the year students may have practical exams and structured Internal or External Assessments (NEA’s) for some qualifications.  We will continue to update this page with exact dates as they are arranged, it is important that parents and students also make themselves available for these additional dates.

  • 23 February - GCSE Dance Phase Practical Exam
  • 27 February - GCSE Drama Practical Performance Exam
  • 27 March - GCSE Dance Performance Exam
  • 15 to 25 April - MFL GCSE Speaking EXAMS
  • 25, 26 and 29 April – GCSE 3D Art and GCSE Photography Exams
  • 30 April and 1 May – GCSE Art Exam
  • 2 and 3 May - GCSE 3D Art and GCSE Photography Exams continued
  • 13 and 14 May – Year10 GCSE Drama Component 1 Practical Exam

NCFE subject NEAs (non-examination assessments) will be over a period of time and Heads of Department will communicate this with students.


Examination protocol

Please note the following for all exams, whether mock or final:

  • Morning exams start at 9.00am, afternoon exams start at 1.30pm – However check your timetable for exact timings
  • Pupils are reminded to look at their exam timetables on Arbor for the dates, rooms and timings of each exam. 
  • Pupils should meet for their exam 15 minutes prior to the published start time and check the Yellow Bulletin where they will be advised of where to meet for their exam.
  • Students should arrive to each exam with their clear pencil case containing all the stationary they need.
  • Pupils should arrive in full school uniform to sit their exam
  • Any pupil arriving late to an exam may be refused entry
  • Pupil should be familiar with the documents below which show the rules and regulations of external exam.
