Dance

Dance is taught at St Catherine’s College to enable children to experience a broad and balanced curriculum, allowing pupils to access an aesthetic appreciation which will open their minds to understanding and appreciating different art forms. We aim to encourage pupils to think creatively to explore movement which communicates a variety of topics and develop an understanding of different cultures and eras through dance.

Through our curriculum, we allow pupils to work collaboratively to create dance pieces which show an understanding of both choreography and performance, developing their confidence to showcase their skills to others.

We aim to nurture pupils’ ability to critically appreciate professional dance works and their choreographers. We believe this allows pupils to develop their cultural understanding and give them the tools to confidently discuss Dance as an art form.

Please find full details of the curriculum for all year groups below. If you have any queries, please get in touch with Mrs E McQueen, Head of Dance
