St Catherine’s College Catering
The St Catherine’s College Catering team is made up of six members of staff who are directly employed by the College. Each year group has its own food servery to use at break and lunchtimes, in addition to the café which is also open every day for breakfast.
The dedicated catering team prepares a four-week menu cycle which is reviewed and amended on a regular basis. It might be subject to occasional changes. They provide a fresh, creative and nutritious approach to café catering, built on fundamental beliefs that food should be healthy and that school lunches should be a time for everyone to look forward to and enjoy.
The café offers a wide range of options including a vegetarian main meal and healthy alternatives. The food is prepared daily with low levels of salt, sugar and saturated fat.
At St Catherine's College we have a real commitment to ethically sourced produce and a wide range of dishes that meet the dietary needs and a taste of a diverse, international community. We use quality products, some of which are sourced locally.
Our school meal service:
A few of the benefits include:
- Meals that follow government nutritional standards
- Special dietary requirements are catered for
- Freshly cooked wholesome food
We encourage healthy eating when planning the menu, with the right balance of the five main food groups.
“The Eat Well Plate”:
- Fruit and vegetables, providing vitamins, minerals and fibre
- Meat, fish, eggs, beans and pulses (and other non-dairy sources of protein)
- Food and drinks
- Milk and dairy foods
- Bread, rice, potatoes and pasta
Our catering team provides healthy balanced meals because they improve young people’s concentration and performance in school; as well as promoting health, growth and development, increasing resistance to illness and introducing good habits for later life.
Cashless catering procedures:
Cashless catering encourages students to make purchases without the need to carry cash, reducing the risk of them making unhealthy eating choices by spending cash elsewhere. It also allows our catering team to serve students quickly and efficiently.
ParentPay/Payment options:
- Cash via Pay Point
- Card payment via ParentPay
- Cheques (payable to St Catherine’s College)
Free School Meals:
If your child is entitled to free school meals, the daily allowance is £2.40.
If you’d like to check if you’re eligible and/or apply for free school meals, please visit: https://www.eastsussex.gov.uk/educationandlearning/schools/school-life/meals/free/
Timings:
Breakfast: 8:00 - 8:30am
Break time: 11:10 - 11:30am
Lunchtime: 1:30 - 2:00pm
All year group food serveries are open at break and lunchtimes.
Pre-Order (lunchtimes only)
We would ask that all lunch food is pre-ordered by 2pm the day before. This is to ensure that orders are taken to the correct food servery, whilst we are operating in year group bubbles.
We cater for customers with food allergies or other specific dietary requirements. If your child has any dietary requirements, please contact our catering staff and we will be happy to help.
The main aim of The St Catherine’s College Food Policy is to provide a range of healthy food choices throughout the school day, in line with the mandatory School Food Standards.
